Exhibition: The Syriac-Aramaeans of Türabdin / Hüsamettin Bahçe

The first exhibition Diyarbakır Arts Center realizes in 2010 is dedicated to the photographies of Hüsamettin Bahçe under the title “The Syriac-Aramaeans of Türabdin”. The subject of the exhibition, opened on the 16th of January, is the culture and tradition of the Christian Aramaean Community in the Mardin area, the “The Syriac-Aramaeans of Türabdin”. This exhibition is a visual documentation of the oldest Christian Communitiy. The exhibition is open until the 28th of February.

Diyarbakır Arts Center hosts a forum on the 16th of January, preceding the opening of the exhibition “The Syriac-Aramaeans of Türabdin”. Guests are Gabriel Akyüz, priest of the Kırklar Church in Mardin, and Abdurrahim Özmen, President of the Department of Anthropology at Dicle University, Diyarbakir.

 Between the 9th and 10th of January, Diyarbakır Arts Center screens the results of the „Film Turkey - National Youth Film Making Workshop”. Between 2008 and 2009, the Atlantik Film Company together with the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia introduced High School and University students from Edirne, Konya, Sivas, Mardin, Artvin and Antakya to film making.

Zinos struggles to make a living out of his shabby restaurant in the outskirts of Hamburg. Struck down by back aches, he sees himself forced to hire a cook to work in his place, who happens to be a choleric gourmet and scares away all old customers. In an ironical and humorous way Zinos tries to make the best out of it and stumbles over heart aches, and the sudden return of his older brother from jail, while his tavern turns into one of the hippest places in town. But not everybody is happy about his success…
